The College of Mediators is an independent standard setting body for professionally qualified mediators both in the UK and abroad. The College provides information to the public about mediation and how it can help people resolve disputes in a way that seems fair and practical to them avoiding the distress and cost of lengthy legal battles. It holds a registers of well qualified mediators who can help you resolve a whole range of disputes. This includes those within the family, such as children's contact arrangements or agreeing arrangements for property and finance when separating or divorcing, sorting out problems with the neighbours or dealing with disputes at work. All College mediators are fully trained and adhere to the Colleges high standards of supervision and practice to ensure the best quality mediation service to the public. Domestic Abuse If you are looking for support as a result of being in an abusive relationship the following organisations are experts in this field. Women’s Aid is the national domestic violence charity which co-ordinates and supports a network of over 370 local domestic violence organisations. Their website offers advice and support including The Survivor's Handbook. They also have a 24 hour National Domestic Violence helpline 0808 2000 247. The leading organisation in Scotland working towards the preventions of Domestic Abuse. An important aspect of their work is ensuring that women and children with experience of domestic abuse get the serivices they need, both form Women's Aid groups and the agenceis they are likely to contact. They provide specialist serives to women, and children and young people. These include safe refuge accommodation, information and support. They have a 24 hour helpline 0800 027 1234 24. This is a very useful site, also part of the Women’s Aid charity, for children and young people to help them understand domestic abuse and how to take positive action. A life coach is an individual who supports and encourages people to fulfil their potential and really make the most of their life. A life coach can help to empower individuals to take control of their life, or certain areas of their life, for example, their career, confidence/self belief, finances, health, relationships, spirituality and/or work/life balance.
